International Symposium on
Religion and the World Peace
26-28 April, 2007
Faculty of Theology of
Istanbul University, Turkey
Main Theme of the
Symposium:
Violence and terror, which
threaten the societies and the human future
today, appear as a global problem. It is known
that the religions that give place the peace and
salvation among their main doctrines, and the
religious values are sometimes used for the
favor of violence and terror. It is also known
that the religious diversities are seen as the
reasons of chaos and violence. As is well known,
it is possible to talk about various reasons of
background of violence and terror such as
political, economical and historical. However,
it is sad to see that some violent actions
closely connected with religious believes and
diverse religious/cultural structures. How could
it be appropriate to use religious beliefs and
doctrines in favor of violence, terror and
chaos? Is it possible to use religious
diversities to justify violent actions against
the others? Such questions are more important
especially the universal religions that present
humanity unique ethical and social virtues are
concerned.
Being arranged
in Istanbul, a meeting place of cultures and
civilizations,
International Symposium on Religion and the
World Peace
